Da Spam Musubi Eating Contest Rules

There will be a maximum of 10 contestants for the eating competition(s), based on first come, first serve registration.

The object of the eating competition is to eat as many SPAM Musubis as quickly as you can.

The winner of the competition will be determined by either:

  • The first person to complete all 10 SPAM Musubis

OR

  • The contestant who can eat the most SPAM Musubis within the contest time period of 3 minutes

ELGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • As of September 11, 2011, all contest participants must be 18 years of age.
  • A valid driver’s license (or other identification) is required to verify participant & age.
  • Each participant must agree to the official rules and terms & conditions of the contest.
  • A completed & signed entry form & waiver form is required.

OFFICIAL RULES

  1. A completed application form and waiver form must be signed by all participants.
  2. The contest is open to 10 contestants per competition, based on first come, first serve registration.
  3. Online submissions will be selected and notified by email and/or telephone on or about September 4, 2011. If the potential contestant cannot be reached for any reason, or does not respond, they will be disqualified and the next runner-up will be selected as a contestant.
  4. In person entries may also be taken.
  5. Contestants may either sit or stand in their designated area.
  6. Each contestant will receive water during the competition. You may not bring your own beverage. Any contestant that uses additional condiments or beverages during the competition will be disqualified.
  7. Each contestant will be presented with 10 SPAM Musubis. Every effort will be made so that the SPAM Musubis are all equal in size as possible.
  8. Contestants must complete each SPAM Musubi before proceeding to the next, or any uncompleted SPAM Musubis will not be counted in the final count. If a considerable amount of food is spilled or dropped, the contestant will be disqualified.
  9. Upon the sound of the start signal from the judges, the contest will begin. Until the sound of the start signal, any touching or eating of the SPAM Musubis will not be permitted. Contestants must stop eating at the sound of the end signal. Any uncompleted SPAM Musubi will not be included in the final count. However, contestants will be allowed 20 seconds to swallow any food that is already in their mouth. After eating, you will be required to show your empty mouth to the judges.
  10. No utensils are allowed for this competition.
  11. If a contestant vomits at any point during the competition, he/she will be disqualified. In addition, if a contestant vomits within 3 minutes following the eating competition, he/she will also be disqualified.
  12. Eligible judges will be chosen to monitor the contest rules, and count the amount of eaten Spam Musubis per contestant.
  13. In the event of a tie, contestants will race to complete a single SPAM Musubi in the fastest amount of time. The same contest rules will apply.
  14. The judges will have the final authority to rule a contestant as disqualified for any reason.

TERMS & CONDITIONS / WAIVER FORM

1. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF RISKS AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY. Each contestant agrees that he/she is in a good physical health to enter an eating competition that involves the consumption of large quantities of food. Contestants represent that he/she has no knowledge of any valid medical reasons why he/she should not enter the contest.

Contestants acknowledge that there are risks of personal injury, illness, and possible loss of life, and risks of damage to or loss of personal property, which may result from participating in this contest. Contestants voluntarily enter “Da SPAM Musubi Eating Contest” and assumes all of these risks.

By entering the contest, the participant agrees that the sponsors and all of the agencies, companies & corporations involved and their respective directors, officers, employees, and all others associated with the development and execution of this contest shall not be held responsible for any negligence, claims, liability, injury or property loss or other damages of winning arising from, or in connection with the prizes or participation in this promotional event. The contestant releases and indemnifies the Sponsor and individuals involved from liability for injuries or damages of any kind arising from or in connection with participation in this contest or the receipt or use of any prize. In no event will the Sponsor or individuals involved in the Rice Fest be held liable to a contestant for acts related to the Contest or that contestant’s participation in the contest.

2. DISCLAIMER. By participating, entrants agree to these official rules, terms and conditions, and the final decisions of the judges. All decisions regarding qualifications, disqualification of contestant(s) or winner(s) shall be subject to the sole discretion of the Sponsor. You can be disqualified for any reason at any time.

3. USE OF ENTRANT’S NAME, LIKENESS, ETC. Entry into this contest constitutes permission to identify you as a contestant in the eating contest. Contestants agree to the use of their name, photo, video, and likeness for advertising and promotional purposes without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law.

4. MISCELLANEOUS. The Sponsor reserves the right to change the official rules at any time, under its sole discretion, and to cancel the contest or any entrant’s participation in the contest.

5. CERTIFICATION AND SIGNATURE. I certify that the information provided is correct and that I have carefully read, understand, and accept the official rules, and terms and conditions of “Da SPAM Musubi Eating Contest.” My signature indicates my understanding and assumption of all risks and my voluntary participation in this contest.
